SkyTales Antipatterns — The AI-Generated Look

Companion to BRAND.md. Paste both into every generation session. BRAND.md says what to do; this document says what to refuse. Every pattern below is banned because it is the statistical average of a million generated frontends, and the entire point of a brand is to not be the average.

The test for everything: could this exact page have been generated for any other project? If yes, it is not SkyTales yet.

1. Banned colors

Emerald success / red / amber traffic-light chrome #10B981 #F59E0B everywhere Status colors used as decoration. In SkyTales, green and red appear only when the math has actually reached a verdict.

2. Banned typography

  • Inter for everything. Inter is a fine typeface that has become the watermark of generated UIs. SkyTales is Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mono, no exceptions, no “just this one label.”
  • Gradient text on headings. Background-clipped gradient titles are the number one generated hero. Headings are solid SKY.textBright.
  • Proportional fonts on numbers. Any value, unit, tick, coordinate, or readout that measures something is Ubuntu Mono. A measurement in a UI font is a costume error.
  • Fake math. Italic HTML approximations of equations, unicode soup, or hand-styled superscripts. Equations render through the LaTeX pipeline (Computer Modern face) or they don’t ship.

3. Banned layout and chrome

  • Glassmorphism as default. backdrop-filter: blur on every panel with a 5% white border is the generated card. One frosted layer is a choice; five is a template. Panels are suit navy #262C53, opaque enough to feel like fabric.
  • rounded-2xl / rounded-3xl everything. Uniform maximal border radius reads generated. We use 12 px on panels, 6 px on controls, and nothing rounder without a reason.
  • Shadow-glow on every interactive element. Glow is reserved for the single active/touched element (orange). Ambient glow on idle buttons is noise.
  • Three-column feature cards with icon, title, blurb. The generated landing section. SkyTales explains with the visualization itself or not at all.
  • Hero: giant gradient number, small label, three stats below. Identified by the frontend-design literature as the template answer. Our hero is the altitude concept, which we chose deliberately; don’t reproduce its shape on other pages where it isn’t earned.
  • Centered everything. Generated pages center-align out of indecision. Alignment should follow reading order and instrument logic.

4. Banned copy

  • Adjective inflation: “stunning,” “beautiful,” “powerful,” “seamless,” “cutting-edge,” “elevate,” “unleash,” “dive into,” “supercharge.” Facts without adjectives. The work is the adjective.
  • Emoji as section markers. 🚀✨🔥 in headings or docs. The palette carries energy; the text stays dry.
  • Exclamation marks in UI. “Data loaded successfully!” becomes “Data loaded.” The interface is an instrument, and instruments don’t cheer.
  • Explaining the metaphor. “Just like skydiving, math requires courage…” Never decode the brand. “I also skydive.” is a complete paragraph.
  • Hedge-and-hype sandwiches: “This isn’t just a visualization, it’s an experience.” Anything shaped like “isn’t just X, it’s Y” is generated cadence.
  • Em dashes as seasoning. House style avoids them entirely.

5. Banned motion and effects

  • Bloom on everything. Bloom threshold 0 with high strength turns physics into a lava lamp. Bloom serves neon subjects on the void; keep strength low and let darkness do the contrast.
  • Particles for atmosphere. Floating dust, orbiting dots, confetti canvases behind content. If particles appear, they are the physics being simulated, not mood.
  • Scroll-triggered fade-up on every element. One orchestrated reveal per page maximum. Everything animating is nothing animating.
  • Hover scale on cards. hover:scale-105 on every tile is the generated grid. Hover states change color or depth, not size, unless the element is genuinely a button into another world.

6. Banned semantics (the deepest tells)

  • Decorative color. Any color that doesn’t mean something. Before adding a hue, name its role in the vocabulary (subject, secondary, reference, component, verdict). No role, no color.
  • Two subjects. Two orange elements in one frame. If everything is highlighted, the machine chose for you, badly.
  • RGB = XYZ axes. Red/green/blue coordinate tripods from game-engine defaults. Axes are grey; identity comes from labels.
  • Safe slider ranges. Clamping parameters to the textbook interval. That is the opposite of the brand. Sliders go past where it’s polite.

The one-paragraph version

If a page has an indigo accent, an Inter headline with a purple-pink gradient, frosted glass cards with rounded-3xl corners floating on a slate-navy background, emoji section headers, adjectives doing the work the content should do, and everything gently fading up on scroll, it was generated, and everyone can tell. SkyTales is the opposite on every axis: void-black sky, suit-navy fabric, one neon-orange subject, grey instruments, mono numbers, Computer Modern math, dry copy, and sliders that go too far. When in doubt, remove the effect and let the physics be the spectacle.
